Iran reopens border crossing with Iraqi Kurdistan region

October 27, 2017 - 13:25

TEHRAN – Iran reopened a border crossing with the Iraqi Kurdistan region on Wednesday after having closed it following last month’s independence vote in the Kurdish area, ISNA reported.

The decision came on the same day as the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) offered to put their independence drive on hold, stepping up efforts to resolve tensions with Baghdad via dialogue.

In recent months, Iran and Turkey backed the Iraqi government in opposing the independence vote, which Baghdad described as “illegal”.
